James is a name found in the Bible. He has his own book with several chapters. His writings are found in the New Testament after Luke’s chapter and before 1 Peter.
In one of the last post I said that, “I believe that you are forgiven when you whole heartedly ask God to forgive you. With this notion I said that I believe that we have an accountability and responsibility to honor God” and serve Him, by our actions. We cannot get into Heaven by just being nice people, but doing as God tells us plus our faith and good works, we will be blessed spending eternal life with HIM. That means we will not have to put up with this cruel and evil world that tempts us and harms us, placing enemies all around us.
Who is James?
- Leader of the headquarters church in Jerusalem
- Knew how to speak with authority
- Tells us how we should act. (With no hidden meanings to analyze)
- His advice is very clear (easy to read- straight forward)
- In this chapter he was speaking to both rich and poor.
- Does not write about how to become a Christian, but rather how to act like one. Actions and motions expected by Christians
- James’s wants us to “Do not merely listen to the Word… Do what it says” (1:22)
This is how the book starts (1.1)
James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ
This is his speech:
[ To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations:]
Greetings.
James speaks on the following:
- Trials and Temptations
- Listening and doing
- Favoritism Forbidden
- Faith and Deeds
- Taming the TONGUE
- Two kinds of wisdom
- Submit Yourselves to God (SELF CONTROL)
- Boasting about tomorrow
- Warning to Rich Oppressors
- PAITENCE IN SUFFERING
- The Prayer of Faith
James coined the phrase “DOUBLE MINDED” (4.8)
Here is an exert From Chapter 5:
(5:11) NIV
” As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.”
[If you are feeling down on yourself, Read the book of JOB- He lost everything, and it tells of his struggles.] JOB is in the New Testament after Jeremiah and before Joel.
(5:13-16) NIV
“Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.
Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.
And prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”
My prayer is for us to Read the SHORT chapter (5pgs) of James, humble ourselves, and wait it out. Praise God in Prayer during good times and Bad.
In Jesus Christ’s name, AMEN.
